The Flower Scam

Share:

Last week I told you about a promotion in which we can get 75 Reward Points if we buy flowers for Mother's Day from ProFlowers (1).
I've been wanting to test this out and was able to do that tonight. I went to the Featured Items Module and proceeded to buy flowers.
I chose an arrangement that was listed for $29.98.
After filling in the recipient and billing information, I noticed that the final cost came to $78.95. There were all kinds of hidden charges. The fact that there were 2 Delivery charges along with a "Care & Handling" charge made it feel like they were trying to rip me off.
Since they were trying to charge almost $50 than the advertised price, I looked up how many Reward Points I could buy and it was much more than 75. At regular price, $50 would get you 215 Reward Points. With a 30% discount it would cost $35.
I said basically said screw you to ProFlowers and bought my flowers through one of the advertisers on my blog. I was charged one delivery fee and the card and vase were included in the listed price. I purchased Reward Points with the money I saved. Zynga should really look into the billing practices of third parties before pushing products on their players.

  4. One of the ways to work it against them is to process the order up till the final confirmation then cancel. Give it some time and an email will appear offering you a better deal, either free shipping or some such. I've used them before and the shipping usually kills the deal. The load o' spam they send out can be annoying as well, big thanks to filters! If you have a Sam's nearby they have nice flowers for a lot less, 2 doz roses for $20. They last as long as the others.
