If you've been playing Mafia Wars for over a year, I'm sure you remember the first Wishlist adder by Mike Vesasto. I didn't have any images of it but found one on The Mafia Wars Maniac Blog. Thanks Ade!
If you go to this site today, all you will see is a personal message from Mike Vesasto (1). Mike suggested that someone create their own wishlist adder and make it popular.
Back in the day, wishlist adders were really cool because there was no other way in the game to add an item to your wishlist if you didn't already own it. Since the inventory page changed, we now have access to loot we don't and can add it to our wishlists. In the example below, I have zero New Year's Resolutions. Maybe if there wasn't so much to do in the game, I would have time to participate in Operations! All I needed to do was find the item in my inventory and I add it to my wishlist.
Because of this addition to the game, one may ask if wishlist adders are still necessary. I say the answer is yes for a couple of reasons. The first being that all the giftable loot can be viewed on one page and comparisons of stats can easily be made. It's also easier to scroll through one page than using filters to find things and scrolling through a bunch of pages. There have been 2 sites to take on Mike Vesasto's challenge to create their own wishlist adder. The Mafia Wars Wiki Wishlist Adder and The Mafia Wars Wishlister. I've discussed both of these sites in the past (1) and today I'll focus on the Mafia Wars Wishlister as they have made some great updates to their page. Go to http://mafiawarswishlister.com to get started. Select the Full version to see all of the giftable loot items. The Lite version will be re-released in the very near future and that will contains all of the loot but without all the fancy bits for quicker loading.
If you want to focus on certain types of loot, use the tabs located at the top of the page. There are 7 different categories to choose from.
Before you start adding items to your wishlist, the most important thing to remember is to clear your current wishlist. Your wishlist can be accessed by using the Inventory tab and then selecting the little yellow wishlist icon. To remove item, simply click on the little red minus sign.
In the example below, I wanted to add some of the Operation Loot to my wishlist. To do this, hover the mouse over Special Loots to open up the drop menu, select Operations Loots and you will be taken to that section. Now select the items you want to add and they will appear on your wishlist. You will need to do this one item at a time.
When you share your wishlist with your mafia, remember to write in the items that you want. Not too long age, Zynga removed the item names from the posts generated from sharing our wishlists. Now the only thing it says is that you are looking for wishlist items. The change was made because they added different languages to the game.
If you know the name of the item you want to add, you can just use the search feature. This is located at the far right of the home page underneath the pciture of the green car.
Click on "Launch Item Search" once and a moveable search bar will appear. In the example below, I want to add a Foo Fighter to my wishlist so all I had to do was type in Foo Fighter and I was brought right to the item which is also highlighted.
According to Rich, one of the creators, there are "some amazing ideas in the works for the Wishlister to provide an even bettr experience with adding item". They are planning on adding a new top 5 loot section so we will know the what the best tradable loot items are. It's so hard to keep track of loot now and this will make it much easier for all of us. Thanks to Chris Page for sending me information about the Wishlister.
