Toasted Skin Syndrome: Laptop Users At Risk

Share:

This doesn't have much to do with Mafia Wars but I would like to warn as many people as possible about a condition called Toasted Skin Syndrome.  About 2 months ago, I noticed a net shaped scar on my lower right thigh.  I couldn't figure out what it was as it didn't look like anything I saw when I was in medical school.  I did notice that the scared area was a perfect match to the exhaust fan on my laptop.  Since then I avoided resting my laptop on my leg but the scar has not gone away.  I finally found some literature and learned all about it (1),(2).  I'm hoping that topical creams will help but it looks like I'm stuck with this scar as everything I read says it's permanent.  Before leaving a comment calling me a dumb ass, I already know I wasn't very smart about it.  I hope those of you who use your laptops will remember this article and take precautions to avoid Toasted Skin Syndrome.

  2. I think bare skin. It happened to me during the summer when I was wearing shorts most of the time. I would get to focused on what I was doing to move the laptop. I so regret that now!
