Another Bad Script Rumor

Share:

Here is a post that I have seen numerous times today on my newsfeeds.  I've also gotten several inbox messages from various groups personally warning me not to use scripts today or tomorrow.
This seems ridiculous to me but I can understand why some would believe it.  With all the changes and recent restrictions on certain accounts for having inflated statistics, it seems reasonable to believe that more screenings of accounts are taking place.  I see no facts here and can easily disprove one of them.  If you're going to create a post that will obviously cause widespread panic in the Mafia Wars community, you should be more careful with your wording and provide sources.  Where did the number 100,000 come from and really, what does "Zap" mean?  Are they going to temporarily or permanently suspend or delete accounts?  According to Nemesis, they don't even purge dead accounts on their servers, they all get converted to Default Dons after 90 days.  And what's this statement about new Terms of Service?  They were last updated on August 1, 2010 and here is the new material:
a) Unless otherwise specified in writing, all materials that are part of the Service are owned, controlled, or licensed by Zynga and are protected by law from unauthorized use. The entire contents of the Service are copyrighted under the United States copyright laws and/or similar laws of other jurisdictions. Zynga, the Zynga logos, and all game names are trademarks of Zynga and may not be used without the express written permission of Zynga.

b) You do not acquire any ownership rights by using the Service, downloading material from or uploading material to the Service, or by purchasing any virtual goods.

c) You agree not to copy, redistribute, publish or otherwise exploit material from the Service, except as expressly permitted herein, without the express prior written permission of Zynga.
9) Disputes with Others

a) We reserve the right, but have no obligation, to monitor and/or manage disputes between you and other users of the Service. If you have a dispute with other users, you release Zynga and hereby agree to indemnify Zynga from claims, demands, and damages (actual and consequential) of every kind and nature, known and unknown, arising out of or in any way connected with such dispute.
vi) engage in any commercial activities, including, without limitation, any attempt to raise money for anyone or advertise or promote a product, service, website, pyramid scheme or other multi-tiered marketing scheme;

I can't tell you how many players claim to know somebody or a friend of somebody who works for Zynga.  There is just no validity to a statement like that.  Anybody could make a post and claim that it came from somebody who works for Zynga.  I spent a lot of time searching The Zynga Forum Boards and there is nothing about this to be found.  I could make something up and make a post stating that due to making the game more "fair play" Zynga will be rolling all accounts over level 2465 down to 1237 and people would copy the information and post it to their walls and soon many would believe it to be true.  Always ask someone where their information came from before you share it with others.

I asked Pistol Pete from Team Spockholm what his opinion of this rumor was.  This is his response.

From their own TOS.

xiv) except as may be the result of standard search engine or Internet browser usage, use or launch, develop or distribute any automated system, including, without limitation, any spider, robot (or "bot"), cheat utility, scraper or offline reader that accesses the Service, or use or launch any unauthorized script or other software;

Automated and cheat utility needs to be defined. However....

d) Zynga reserves the right discontinue the Service or to change the content of the Service in any way and at any time, with or without notice to you, without liability.

I am not sure how any company can so blindly ignore its customers. So if they do not like your profile picture they could disable your count, even though you may have spent hundreds of dollars with their company. Something sure seems wrong./Pistol Pete, Team Spockholm

    According to most recent meetings between Zynga's game developers, higher level Zynga execs and several clan leaders, the use of Third Party scripts/bookmarklets is officially against Zynga's TOS, however...

    The use of Chucker and Profile Switch (or bookmarklets from other sources that do ONLY gifting and switching profiles) will NOT result in actions against MW accounts (disabling, suspending).

    If you use Chucker and/or Profile Switch in your MW game play, be advised that your account could be "monitored," but if you aren't using any other bookmarklets/scripts (Attack X, Job Helper, etc.), you won't face any action from Zynga.

    This is the latest, as of today!

  3. Where is the latest posted? All scripts are a violation of TOS so I would like to see an official statement saying that certain ones are ok for use.

  6. All things considered, script players are very invested in playing the game but not if they have to sit and click and wait for hours on end. Zynga probably makes more money from script players than non script players. If its all about money with Zynga, which it seems to be, they sure would be shooting themselves in the foot to "zap" accounts for running scripts. If they don't want scripts, then they should build a better game interface!!!

  7. What benefit does Zynga get from zapping 100,000 daily player accounts. Some of their income is based on the statistics of how many players they have playing. If they block one player, you know that player probably had at least two energy accounts. SO banning 100,000 accounts, will lose them 300,000 daily players. Not good on the old numbers. Some of these of these players have more than 3 accounts.

    Zynga talks about helping to level the field by preventing people from using these energy accounts to gain loot for a fighter. If you wanted you could still buy an unfair advantage straight from Zynga. Give them a ton of money and you can buy skills or really high end loot. If they want to really level the field, shouldn't they stop selling Reward Points and high end loot?

  8. as for myself... I always use caution when using any of the scripts.. because you never know what facebook security or Zynga plan to play god with your account.. people report accounts just because the get all butt hurt.. with someone and get even and Zynga and Facebook are supposed to be Social Networks.. and why they want to ban or block those because chances are somebody already made a knew one to replace it.. so thank you all for keeping the panick to a mild roar..
